Kylix is dead now

Borland has updated its Classic Products page to include Borland Kylix. Borland states on this page, that all listed products are still available for purchase, however, Borland does not offer further enhancements or support for those products.

Therefore Borland Kylix is effectivly dead now! Kylix has been Borlands product to offer cross plattform development using Borland C++Builder and Borland Delphi and taking applications to Linux using the CLX library.

They announced a Kylix Community Project at BorCon last year to update Kylix. I am guessing that didn't take off like they expected it to.

It may be the end for Kylix support and future development of Kylix itself, but I still use Kylix 3 (or rather Delphi 7 + CrossKylix with the Kylix 3 stuff from the CD) to write and deploy some Linux web server and web service applications for some of my clients.
So unlike so people's posts, to me the rumours of Kylix' death have been greatly exaggerated ;-)

Hi Bob,

maybe I should have written: Borland tries to drown Kylix ;-)
Okay, so it is still and alive kicking on some dev machines, but sadly not on Borland Kylix-go-ahead-Dev machines anymore ;-)

Kylix will have a following - the same people who use Linux in the first place.

Linux users and Windows users will be happy to know that Fakelinux and freepascal let you develop Linux web applications on MS Windows, with a Linux Apache server available from windows too.

We could easily build the support in for Kylix compiler, but I don't see any advantages in using Kylix, over freepascal, since freepascal has long term plans for linux and kylix doesn't? Comments?
